Installation Help placing an order

If you have never installed a stretch fabric before, don't worry. With accurate measurements and a few simple rules, you can prepare your order with confidence.
The tips below will guide you step by step to a successful measurement.
Before you start, simply record the actual dimensions of the surface to be covered, from wall to wall.

Safety margins to allow for

When measuring your ceiling or wall, never order the fabric at its exact dimensions (the so-called "net" dimensions). You must always allow for a little extra (the so-called "gross" dimensions).

We recommend adding 10 cm to the actual ceiling dimensions, i.e.:

  • • + 10 cm in width
  • • + 10 cm in length
This represents a 5 cm margin all around the fabric (referred to as a 5 cm turning edge).

Why add this margin?
Because during installation, the fabric must be inserted into the profiles and then tensioned. These extra centimetres make the work much easier and prevent you from ending up with a fabric that is too tight. The excess will then be trimmed with a pair of scissors.

Safety margins to allow for For a ceiling measuring 300 × 400 cm, the fabric to order will be 310 × 410 cm.

The tucking tool, an essential piece of equipment

To install a stretch fabric, you will need a tucking tool. This is what allows you to insert the fabric into the profile.

If you are a beginner, we recommend a PVC tucking tool. It is easier to handle and more reassuring for a first installation. Once you are more comfortable, you can use a stainless steel tucking tool. It is stiffer and more precise, but requires a little more practice.

For wall installation, a stainless steel tucking tool is required.

Warning: a plastering spatula will not work!

Managing fabric joins

Managing fabric joins

If at least one of the two dimensions of your ceiling is less than 5 metres, you can install the fabric in a single piece, without a join.

In this case, order the fabric at the maximum length of your ceiling. This length corresponds to the linear metres to be specified when ordering. The number of linear metres corresponds to the total length of fabric required.

For the width, choose the standard width immediately above your ceiling dimension: 1.50 m, 2.50 m, 3.10 m, 4.10 m or 5.10 m.

To fix the fabric, you can use:

  • • the ClipSWAL™ CSW 200 profile for wall fixing
  • • the ClipSWAL™ CSW 201 profile for ceiling fixing

Case no. 2: installation with a join

If both dimensions of your ceiling exceed 5 metres, a join will be required. This means two fabrics will be joined together. You can choose the position of the join according to the room configuration. The junction is made with the ClipSWAL™ CSW 201 profile, which allows two fabrics to be inserted into the same clip.

How to calculate the quantity of profiles needed?

Profiles are the "rails" fixed around the perimeter into which the fabric is inserted. They are supplied in lengths. To find out how many to order, measure the entire perimeter of the surface to be treated.
We recommend adding one extra length of profile to your order. This margin compensates for cuts and prevents you from running short during installation. The total length ordered corresponds to the sum of these lengths + one additional length.

Case no. 1: installing a stretch ceiling

Measure the entire perimeter of the ceiling, then order the corresponding lengths, adding one extra length.
Whether for wall fixing (ClipSWAL™ CSW 200 profile) or ceiling fixing (ClipSWAL™ CSW 201 profile), the quantity is the same.

Case no. 2: installing a stretch wall

Measure the entire perimeter of the wall to be treated. Do not forget the contours of windows and other openings. These also require profiles all the way around.
Order the corresponding lengths, adding one extra length.

Anticipate technical elements

Before ordering, identify all elements present on your surface: sockets, light fittings, access panels, detectors, etc. These elements require specific supports or reinforcements. Identifying them in advance will allow you to plan the necessary sub-structures and avoid unexpected issues. They are available in our online shop, and for custom-built structures, please do not hesitate to send us your request via our contact form.

Important: the fabric is supplied at the dimensions ordered. Any adjustments and cuts are made on site during installation.

Before placing your order, make sure you have:

  • Checked your measurements
  • Identified the technical elements
  • Chosen your fixing type (wall or ceiling)
  • Ordered your tucking tool
